Benin King Print

Description

The bust of an African King inspired the Benin King quilt. The Benin King’s face, headdress, and neck are cut, pieced, and appliqued to create the Benin King quilt.
The lighter tones in the center highlight the face. The eyes, lips, and nose were created with a brown gold and white batik print. The King’s head has three rows of appliqued and stitched batik fabric. His face and neck are framed with dark brown appliques.
The black background is stitched with geometric lines that frame his face. Each side of his face has African print appliques on top of the gold base.
